Day 1

Tootie at Battle Point Park, ready to hit the road and walk
Inspiration is never as elusive as many claim. All I ever need to do is take a walk, and my mind tumbles ahead of me like a toddler caught up in using her new-found ability to run. Sometimes I bump into things, sometimes I fall down on my ass, and sometimes, the coolest ideas pop into my head. I've thought up so many stories, so many screenplay ideas, so many solutions--all while on a walk. Since I dived into my studies at the Restorative Exercise Institute, I've learned that walking is the best, most natural way to be healthier in the way that our amazing bodies were intended. And today's inspired idea popped into my head as I walked around Battle Point Loop with my three dogs: what if I walked 365 days in a row? Why couldn't I? What's stopping me from trying? It's worth a shot. I have a friend who had a goal of running 365 days in a row, but I hate running. So does my body. And running is no healthier than a good long walk. So I'm going to give it a whirl, starting today. You can come along. Set your own goal. 365 days? 5 days? Sunny days? You choose. I'll offer up tips and treats and ideas to help you bring health and wellness into your life. You can keep me posted on your progress and maybe that accountability will help you get to where you want to go.

  1. I like this idea. The puppy and I will be walking to the bank today. So, that's a good start. :)

  2. Awesome! Puppies are an excellent motivator! A good walk a day keeps the crazies away! Have fun!

  3. I'm coming to the party late, but love the idea of a year's worth of walking. Historically I am rather a wuss about achieving goals, but yesterday the Dr. told me to walk everyday and today I came upon your blog via Katy who was recommended to me by my sister. I'm thinking I shouldn't ignore the Universe this time and dive in. And I've already started, my little dog and I took a stroll this morning; I can count this as my Day1! Thanks for posting, see you around :)
